Walking the beaches and picking up garbage is actually a fun thing to do.

Beach-combing! I don't get to the ocean much but I visit beaches on the great lakes and in the Adirondacks. Whenever I remember I always take a bag to pick up trash. Besides cleaning up I'm hoping to inspire others to do the same and shame those who litter. And if passerby's think I'm weird that's tough.

Anyone who thinks you are weird doesn't matter. I do the same in the mornings on my walks. We are over a creek. Even on the back roads the trash is surprisingly deep.:(

My ex and I used to pick up trash at the beach; we made it a contest. Whoever picked up the least had to pay for the date. We were both pretty good, and I paid as often as she did.

What a good competitive project. I hope you still do it. We are far from a beach, but the back roads are loaded with trash unfortunately.

Now I live about 150 miles from the beach, but it's amazing how many people talk about the pristine countryside, and then throw their empty soft drink (or worse, their empty beer cans) containers out the window, not even pausing to think about what they're doing.

I try to pick up things when I see them, but it never ends, amd the only competition is with myself; not as interesting.
